Jachères : Presentation of Michelle Lasalle’s Latest Research
Zocalo - Artist Centre, 80 rue Saint-Jean, Longueuil
Michelle LaSalle will share her creative process and the results of her residency at Atelier Circulaire last autumn. The artist explored the relationship between the grain of wood and the grain of bodies: wrinkles, fingerprints and falling hair. The dies for this project were cut from a section of the sickly ash tree that grew in front of her home up until last year. The blocks were cut, leveled and sanded, then engraved via laser and gouge from photographic images; the lines of life were etched into the wood like scars. The presentation will be followed by a demonstration.
Michelle LaSalle is a multidisciplinary artist with a particular interest in printmaking and its deployment in space. She completed a master’s degree in printmaking at Concordia University in 2022 and a bachelor’s degree in visual and media arts at UQÀM in 2015. Winner of the 2021 Denis-Charland Bursary and the 2014 Albert-Dumouchel Award, she has participated in several creative residencies in Quebec and Canada, in addition to exhibiting her work. Her project, Une buée de tous les jours, was featured in a duo exhibition at Arprim in Montreal and a solo show at SNAP in Edmonton. She was also awarded the Relève UQTR Bursary at the 13th Biennale internationale d’estampe contemporaine de Trois-Rivières.
