Ginhawa: Breathing a Shared Practice – Filipino Printmakers Artist Panel

This artist talk brings together Carlo Calope, Melanie Garcia, and Mia Cataquiz, three artists of Filipino descent who met while studying Print Media at Concordia University. Drawing from Filipino frameworks of ginhawa and kapwa, the talk considers how diasporic experience shapes approaches to material, authorship, and collective care.
The artists will discuss their engagement with anitos—precolonial ancestor and nature spirits—and how these figures inform a rethinking of print as relational, embodied, and in circulation. Moving between personal narrative and shared methodology, the discussion situates their work within broader questions of memory, hybridity, and belonging.
The talk will be moderated by the director of Arts and Culture for Centre Kapwa, Deann Louise Nardo. Centre Kapwa is a non-profit organization decolonizing Filipinx-Canadian diaspora mental health and wellness through Art, Movement, and Conversations.
